The surface of the walls that surround us and the materials used have a definite influence on the feeling of well-being that a space gives us.
Improving your home often involves tedious steps that can be discouraging.
The originality of ‘Parementerre’ is that it combines the qualities of clay-based plaster with the advantages of using cladding, i.e. a covering that is easy to install on walls or partitions. It’s a system made up of rectangular elements fixed side by side on wooden uprights to form a finished, vertical, flat surface.
The modules, which measure a standard 60 x 30 cm, are created from wooden frames inside which a raw earth plaster is applied. They are produced entirely by hand, and the colours and textures can be worked in very different ways.
In addition to simplifying the use of raw earth plaster, by offering a dry solution, “Parementerre” is also a support for collaborations. I team up with ethical and inspired designers to offer you unique wall spaces.
Earth is the result of the decomposition of rocks, from large stones down to the smallest elements, clays. There are many different types of clay. Combined with water, they stick to other elements, such as sand and fibres, to produce resistant coatings when dry.
No cooking! This means that very little energy is used in the manufacture of mortar, which can be reused at the end of its life or returned to the earth without any negative impact.
Sand is becoming a scarce resource, the exploitation of which is problematic. In response to this reality, I correct the earth mainly by adding natural fibres (cereal straw, hemp, etc.). They allow me to work with cracking by limiting it without completely prohibiting it.
The surfaces on which I apply my coatings are made of solid wood from French forests. Most often Landes pine, we can also use more noble species (oak, ash, beech, etc.) on the visible parts of the final work.
The qualities of raw earth are now widely recognised, thanks to the work of activist professionals in various disciplines (craftspeople, artists, architects, engineers, researchers, project managers, etc.).
This ‘Parementerre’ solution is another way of using a material that is both noble and modest.
There are many reasons for your choice:
For everyone's healthClay-based plasters have been around for as long as mankind has been building shelters. Throughout the world, clay is the most abundant and evenly distributed resource. It is healthy, easy to extract, use and destroy. Its use is virtuous, there is a real coherence between the benefits of its use and the impact we have on the environment.
No demolition, no dustIt is often necessary to remove old coatings in order to obtain a good bond between rendering and a wall. With ‘Parementerre’, this demolition stage is eliminated, so there’s no dust and rubble to dispose of. Quite an advantage in an already inhabited area, where access is difficult and neighbourly relations need to be preserved!
No drying timeAs the modules are already dry when delivered to the site, there are no drying time constraints. There is no need to anticipate any humidity build-up inside the dwelling or ventilation period. This means that the work can be carried out independently of the seasons and the weather.
MoveableParementerre can be dismantled at will. In other words, they can be reused in another space. This opens up the possibility of treating yourself to earthen renderings, even if you’re renting or planning to move one day.
For speed of installationPrefabricated in the workshop, the modules are fixed to simple wooden uprights in front of the wall to be lined. This solution eliminates the need for the demanding protection required on conventional plastering sites, saving considerable time and waste.
Moreover, conventional plastering generally requires several coats and relatively long drying times. These stages are already carried out in the workshop before we arrive on site, which reduces the time it takes to work on your premises to between 1 and 3 days. (Less travel, less fuel)
For insulationNatural fibre wools (sheep, wood, hemp, etc.) are very good thermal and acoustic insulators, but are too flexible to be coated directly.
One of the advantages of ‘Parementerre’ is that insulation can be inserted between the uprights to which the modules are then fixed. This forms an elegant finish, adding to the insulation the qualities of raw earth such as inertia, moisture regulation and, of course, sensual aesthetics.
For inertiaEarth is a relatively heavy material, which helps to smooth out temperature differences. As a result, it helps to improve indoor comfort and is a perfect complement to the performance of a well-insulated house, such as a timber-framed house.
For acousticsThe load-bearing structure of ‘Parementerre’, which is separate from the existing walls, and the alternation of soft materials (insulation) and hard materials (claddings) provide a good acoustic solution.
In addition, the space left between the cladding modules absorbs airborne sound. Comfort to be taken into account in areas open to the public.
ScalableUsing a modular solution means you can replace one element with another at any time.
